Afghanistan: Government Fails to Protect Women’s Advocates From Threats of Violence and Death

Amnesty International reports that women’s rights activists in Afghanistan face constant threats of violence and death, both to themselves and to their families. The organization interviewed more than fifty Afghan women’s rights activists and their relatives, who said Afghan police and security forces have been unresponsive to requests for protection. The report's author, Horia Masadiq, herself the target of continuous death threats, urged the international community to take greater action to protect women’s rights after the withdrawal of coalition forces from Afghanistan.
