Bolivia: New Law to End Violence Against Women

After a three year drafting process, Bolivia has adopted a new comprehensive law—Law 348—aimed to eliminate violence against women. The law expands protections for women, makes femicide—the murder of women because of the fact that they are female—illegal, and proclaims the elimination of violence against women as a state priority.  

Bolivia’s primary women’s organizations and the UN human rights office contributed to the drafting of Law 348, and were excited to see it enacted. The law represents a culmination of Bolivia’s fight to end all forms of violence against women.
