European Parliament Committees Call for Strategies to Combat VAW
On 10 November 2009 the European Parliament’s Committee for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality adopted a resolution for the elimination of violence against women. The resolution advocates for the European Union Council and Commission to create a legal framework and basis for eliminating violence against women.
On 12 November, three different European Parliament committees passed a joint resolution on the Stockholm Programme (which includes Legal Affairs, Constitutional Affairs, and Civil Liberties). The resolution is an additional call for a Europe-wide strategy to combat violence against women, including measures to protect victims, prevent violence, and prosecute perpetrators.
