United States: National Anti-Trafficking Group Releases 2017 Human Trafficking Statistics

The anti-trafficking group, Polaris Project (Polaris), has released a report compiling 2017 data from its National Human Trafficking Hotline and BeFree Textline, including information on more than forty thousand cases of human trafficking. According to Polaris, the data collected from its hotline and textline “comprise the largest publicly available data set on human trafficking in the United States.” The report includes information on the types of trafficking in the US, survivor demographics, recruitment tactics, risk factors, and methods of force, fraud and coercion. The report’s goal is to raise awareness about the crime of human trafficking and the resources available to help victims in specific geographical, racial and/or ethnic regions.
