Philippines: Storm Increases Risk of Violence towards Women
As recovery efforts continue from the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan, the risk of human trafficking and gender-based violence becomes greater, according to the coordinator of the sub-group of the Haiyan Relief Effort addressing gender-violence. Those who have fled to Manila, as well as those who remain in the affected provinces are exposed to increased security risks. In an effort to improve security, women-friendly spaces have been created in evacuation centers and communities with the highest rates of violence against women.
