United States: Backpage Eliminates Adult Classified Section After Senate Report Finds Website Facilitated Sex Trafficking
The classified ad website Backpage.com has shut down its adult classified section after a US Senate Committee report said the site “knowingly facilitated prostitution and child sex trafficking.” The report found that Backpage.com deliberately edited ads to hide evidence of trafficking and prostitution in order to boost profits.
The full Senate report, issued by the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs, Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, is available for download on the Committee’s website.
