UN Women Annual Report 2012-2013

The UN organization dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment released its annual report detailing its programs’ progress in women’s leadership, economic opportunities, gender-based violence, peace and security processes, and increased funding for gender equality in national budgets.

The report analyzes progress on the organization’s eight Millennium Development Goals. While there have been improvements in education, employment, and government participation, the initiatives to end the causes of discrimination and violence against women and lack of women’s economic empowerment need further improvements. The report finds that three areas in particular need increased focus: ending violence against women, equality of opportunities, and equality in participation in society.
