United States: Louisiana Legislature Approves Housing Bill to Help Domestic Violence Survivors
The Louisiana state legislature passed a new bill to help protect victims of domestic violence from homelessness. The bill expands federal housing protections “against discrimination and eviction” to include women living in any type of rental housing, including unsubsidized rental properties. Approximately one third to one half of women in Louisiana shelters lacked housing after fleeing domestic abuse, according to the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
