United States: Colorado Proposal Would Enlist Truckers to Help Fight Human Trafficking

A proposed Colorado bill would require training for all new commercial driver’s license candidates on how to identify the signs of human trafficking and alert authorities. The proposed legislation follows the example set by other states and industries and builds on the work of Colorado companies that are already voluntarily training their truck drivers. The formal process created by the bill would expand the set of individuals trained to recognize the signs of trafficking to most truckers transporting goods across Colorado. The organization Truckers Against Trafficking has said it supports the bill, noting that the legislation has the potential to turn “bystanders into a disruptive force.”
