Romania Ratifies the Council of Europe's Conventio

The Romanian government ratified the Council of Europe's Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings on August 21, 2006. This Convention was created with multiple aims, including prevention of trafficking, prosecution of traffickers and, most importantly, the protection of victims of trafficking. Included in the Convention is the creation of an independent monitoring group to insure compliance of all cooperating parties.
The Convention was first introduced to countries for consideration on 16 May 2005, and since then it has had ten ratifications including 8 member states.
