UN Overhaul May Include a New Women's Agency

A high-level panel created to address reform in the UN system released its report this week. One of the recommendations made was to create a single agency that would focus specifically on women's issues around the world. The Secretary-General will ask the General Assembly to vote on whether or not the recommendations of the panel, including the new women's agency, should be adopted.

Currently, the money that funds the women's program is split between three groups within the UN system. The new program would consolidate the three agencies into one entity. Campaigners also hope to raise money to fund the budget for the women's agency.
