European Women's Lobby Issues Statement for the 51
The EWL released the statement in recognition that the 51st Session will focus on The elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child as its major theme. The EWL recognizes six issues specific to the status of the girl child in Europe that must be addressed
- Education
- Poverty and social exclusion
- The impact of religious and customary practices on the girl child
- Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights
- Male violence against girls
- Non-accompanined minors as seekers-issues specific to young women and girls
EWL stresses that early intervention and education are necessary to ensure gender equity for boys and girls, and this can only be through a well-designed approach.
