"Because I Am A Girl" Campaign Issues Report on Di

The “Because I Am a Girl” campaign, sponsored by the British Child Development Agency Plan International issued a report on female feticide and discrimination on May 15. The report concluded that 100 million girls die each year because of partiality to boys in their countries.

The independent report noted that every year two million girls are subject to female genital mutilation (FGM), half a million die during pregnancy and 7.3 million are carriers of HIV/AIDS. In addition, one million girls fall into the hands of human traffickers.

The campaign will track the lives of 125 girls born in 2006 until 2015.
