United Arab Emirates Establishes National Committe
The meeting focused on ways to strengthen communication between local and federal authorities and enable them to identify incidents of human rights violations. In an effort to educate the public, the Committee is planning a series of lectures and workshops to inform law enforcement, health and social services personnel about the issue of trafficking. The Committee also proposed training for police and prosecutors.
Victim protection received special attention at the meeting. Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, established the Dubai Women’s and Children’s Foundation, which provides physical and psychological treatment to victims of abuse and trafficking. Rehabilitating the victims, as well as educating government officials, is part of UAE’s efforts to combat trafficking in persons.
