Traffickers and Victim Often Share Family Ties, Na

Traffickers prey upon people wishing to better their economic situation. According to “Preventing Human Trafficking,” the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) states that many traffickers are relatives who use trust in order to manipulate trafficking victims; women will recruit other women. In addition to being related by blood and by gender, traffickers are most often the same nationality as their victims. UNODC combats trafficking through public awareness campaigns, and stresses that prevention initiatives coming from communities are extremely effective.
