Contesting Patriarchy and Rape Culture in the Wake

In exploring the continuing domestic and sexual violence in South Africa, the symposium paper "Bring Me My Machine Gun," suggests engaging men and boys in finding a solution to the violence towards women. The problems rape victims face are numerous and are pervasive through all the steps of the process, including police investigations, medical treatment, and the justice system. A change in men’s perceptions of women and the acceptability of violence is needed in order to reach a resolution. Several small successes in this area through education are examined.
