A seminar was held on July 11 and 12 in
Dushanbe, Tajikistan, with the goal of informing embassy and consulate staff members about the characteristics of human trafficking and what they can do to combat it. Officials of these agencies are in a prime position to identify victims of trafficking and report their cases, and can even help them seek reparations. Therefore, it is important that these officials are made more aware of the problem of trafficking and of the existing legal framework that addresses it.
Tajikistan passed its Anti-Trafficking Law in 2004. The event was organized jointly by the Tajikistan NGO Modar and the OSCE’s Office in Tajikistan. It was a part of the OSCE’s initiative, “Do not become the trophy of traffickers of the 21st century: to be aware is to be prepared,” a project working to spread awareness and to educate the population about trafficking in Tajikistan.
