New Illinois Law Allows GPS Technology for Trackin

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich signed new legislation on August 4, 2008 allowing government authorities to track convicted domestic violence offenders via satellite using GPS technology.  The law is similar to legislation already in effect in Massachusetts that allows judges to order GPS monitoring for tracking batterers and monitoring violations of restraining orders.

Family members of Cindy Bischof, who was killed by her ex-boyfriend in March 2008, sought the legislation to better protect women whose abusers have violated orders for protection.
