Magna Carta for Women Nears Passage in Philippines
The chair of the Committee, Nanette Castelo-Daza, said "the Magna Carta of Women eliminates discrimination against women, but recognizes, protects, fulfills and promotes human rights and fundamental freedoms of women, particularly the poor and marginalized.” Speaker Prospero C. Nograles stated that the passage of the bill showed the country’s commitment to uplifting women and eliminating “discrimination and abuse.” The legislation also needs to be passed by the Phillipine Senate to take effect.
