New Website for Women Affected by Cybercrime

A new website called GenderIT.org was launched to give women a voice in the field of information and communication technologies and to help combat cybercrime against women around the world. Women are most affected by cybercrime against individuals (95 percent), though they are also victims of crimes against property, organizations, and society.

The internet has opened the door for more crimes to be committed against women, including violence and sexual predation. Some countries have laws providing punishment for cybercrimes against women. Organizations like GenderIT.org, ICT Policy Monitor Latin America, and the Association for Progressive Communications are also working to end cyber violence against women, including through the Take Back the Tech Campaign.
