United Nations News Centre reported on 5 March 2009 that the United Nations (UN) launched a new campaign to raise awareness about human trafficking. The campaign’s symbol is a blue heart. According to the
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the blue heart is meant to evoke “the sadness of trafficking victims, the cold-heartedness of the perpetrators and the commitment of the United Nations to fight this crime.” The UNODC hopes the campaign will educate people about human trafficking in a way that demonstrates solidarity with the victims and survivors of trafficking.
