The U.S. Department of State has published its annual
Trafficking in Persons Report(TIP Report). The TIP Report compiles recent information and data on human trafficking around the world and ranks 188 countries on their efforts to end human trafficking. The 2015 report downgraded several countries including Belarus and South Sudan from the Tier 2 watch list to Tier 3, or the worst tier, because they consistently failed to address human trafficking. The most controversial aspect of the current report is the upgrade of Malaysia from Tier 3 to Tier 2, despite widespread reports that the country contributes to the trafficking of Rohingya migrants fleeing violence in Myanmar.
