Ukraine: Women face rising hardships, yet lead recovery efforts

Russia’s invasion has displaced 1.8 million women within Ukraine, with millions requiring humanitarian aid. Gender-based violence has surged, economic opportunities have declined, and unpaid care burdens have intensified. Despite these hardships, Ukrainian women are at the forefront of humanitarian response and economic resilience, leading aid efforts and entering male-dominated sectors. UN Women has supported over 180,000 women with aid, legal support, and economic programs, emphasizing the need for sustained international backing for gender equality and women’s leadership in rebuilding Ukraine.
