Standards in International Human Rights

In response to the call for the international human rights community to set established standards and best practices, the International Council on Human Rights, in partnership with the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR), recently published a report identifying protocol and processes for advocates.

The report uses classic protocols and working groups as a tool in identifying processes through which international human rights standards are set. It explores the elements that led to each process, obstacles to setting them, actors behind setting the processes and choosing the best process for specific circumstances. Included in this analysis are short papers by participants in the standard setting process who identify strengths and weaknesses between processes and relationship between them at regional and global levels.
