US State Department Releases Trafficking in Person

On 19 January 2007, the United States State Department released the Trafficking in Persons Interim Assessment, which contains a list of countries that have significant human trafficking problems, countries which have not improved their efforts to put a halt to trafficking, or whose efforts in this area have been declining, in the time period between May and November of 2006.
Countries must be ranked from Tier 1 (those doing the best job) to Tier 3, (those not complying with miniumum standards and not trying to do so). The Interim assesment is a special watch list that measures anti-trafficking progress and provides guidance on how to avoid becoming a Tier 3 nation. Many countires are improving, but the efforts of others have been inadequate.
